I moved to Silver Maple Sheep Farm (as I call it) in Rose Hill, VA in Febuary 2002.  This Virginia farm totals 60 acres, all in permanent grazing paddocks for sheep and cattle. As of 2014, there are 75 registered Katahdin ewes of breeding age.     The Ewes are on an accelerated lambing program and are on schedule to lamb every eight months. (3 times in 2 years). The ewes lamb outside or inside, depending on weather conditions and time of year.     Ewes graze the year round on predominant fescue, white clover and bluegrass pasture. We have planted turnips for strip grazing which works well.     The flock genetics started with 14 half sisters from Country Oak Ranch (LA), and with the use of Hillcrest Katahdins (VA) rams, have built to the current level.  We strive for ewes that lamb unassisted and care for their lambs. We strive for a moderate framed functional ewe that can carry twins and triplets across the hilly landscape. All sheep are RR and certified scrapie free 1/06/10. Thanks for your interest in Silver Maple Katahdin Sheep.
